Overview

Use this screen to electronically file Form 1065 and its related forms and schedules. See UltraTax CS/1065 electronic filing overview for more information.

General Information

File this return electronically

To file returns electronically for all new clients, mark the

 checkbox in the Other tab in the New Client Options dialog. To open this dialog, choose Setup and then 1065 Partnership and select the New Client Options button.

This field will proforma to next year’s application. To prevent the proforma of this field, clear the
File the return electronically (ELF Screen)
 checkbox in the Proforma tab in the Other Return Options dialog. To open this dialog, choose Setup and then 1065 Partnership and select the Other Return Options button.

You must enter electronic filing configuration information before you can create the electronic file. To enter this information, choose Setup and then Office Configuration, and select the E-Filing tab.
Preparer note explanation
The electronically filed federal return includes information from this statement, as well as information from the
General footnote
 statement in the 1065 Screen in the electronic file. Preparer notes can be used to provide additional voluntary information related to the tax return but not required to be attached to the return.
Signature date of person signing return
Enter the date the electronic return is signed by the partnership representative or partnership representative designated individual (if applicable). This field is mandatory. The IRS will reject any return without a signature date.
note
  • The electronic file and Form 8453-PE or 8879-PE automatically use the date entered in this field as the signature date. If this field is blank, today's date is used if the
    When Form 8879 (etc.) signature date(s) (Preparer and/or Client) are not entered: use current date
     option is marked in Print Options tab in the Office Configuration dialog. To open the Print Options tab, choose Setup and then Office Configuration, and select the Print Options tab.
  • If entered, the date in the

     field in the File and then Print Returns dialog (the second field to the right of the

Signature date of electronic return originator (ERO), if different
Enter the date the return is electronically signed by the ERO. This information is not included in the electronic file, but is used to complete the date signed by the ERO on Form 8453-PE or 8879-PE. If both signature date fields are blank, the application uses today's date if the
When Form 8879 (etc.) signature date(s) (Preparer and/or Client) are not entered: use current date

Signed Form 8453-PE/8879-PE has been received

 if you have received a signed federal Form 8453-PE or 8879-PE. The filing instructions use this information to determine what information appears in the signature section. The selection entered in this field automatically transfers to the
Signature Document
 field in the Utilities and then Electronic Filing Status dialog, and the option selected in the Electronic Filing Status dialog transfers to this field.
note
The application suppresses the printing of Form 8453-PE or 8879-PE if you have received a signed copy of the form. Mark the
Always print Form 8879 (etc.), regardless of signature status
 checkbox in the Setup, Office Configuration, and then Print Options tab to print Form 8453-PE or 8879-PE regardless of the selection in this field.
Email notification when electronic file is accepted by taxing agency

note
Use the

 field in the Automatically assign Email ELF Ack group box in the Setup, Client Communications, and then ELF / eSign Options dialog to select Always for all clients, to select Email address entered for clients only with an email address, or to select Never for all clients.
Suppress the creation of: State electronic files when only filing the FinCEN 114 or federal partnership return or extension electronically
If you enter
X
, UltraTax CS creates only the FinCEN 114 and federal partnership return electronic files for this client and suppresses creation of all state electronic files.
To suppress all state electronic files when filing federal returns or extensions electronically for all new clients, mark the
Suppress state electronic file when filing federal return or extension electronically (ELF Screen)
 checkbox in the Other tab in the New Client Options dialog. To open this dialog, choose Setup and then 1065 Partnership and select the New Client Options button.
Suppress the creation of: Federal partnership electronic files when only filing the FinCEN 114 or a state return or extension electronically
If you enter
X
, the application creates only the FinCEN 114 or state electronic file for this client and suppresses creation of the federal partnership return electronic file. For more details about state-specific electronic filing, see State general electronic filing information. To suppress the FinCEN 114 electronic file, see the 114 Screen.
Electronic funds withdrawal for amended returns: Requested payment date
Enter the requested payment date for the electronic funds withdrawal (direct debit) payment if there is a balance due related to a BBA AAR imputed underpayment. The payment date should be the same as the date the amended return is transmitted.
note
  • If you do not enter a requested payment date, the application assumes the balance due will be paid by electronic funds transfer (EFTPS).
  • In addition to data entered on this screen, complete the Account Information section in the Bank Screen.
Name control
The name control for the electronic file automatically generates based on information you enter in the
Name
 field in the 1065 Screen using the guidelines in Publication 4163 and prints the text in this screen. The IRS determines the name control differently depending on how the Employer Identification Number (EIN) of the partnership was obtained; therefore, you should review name control text for correctness with the IRS
before
 you submit the electronic file. Use the
Force
 field to override the calculated value. For details about how the IRS determines the name control, see General and form-related guidelines for 1065 partnership return electronic filing.
note
The name control that the IRS determines could be based on any of the following: the first partner's last name in a list of partners at the time the Form SS-4 was completed, a name change from a previous year, or the doing business as name.

Personal Identification Number (PIN) Information

Use this section if the Practitioner PIN option is used to electronically sign the return. This will generate Form 8879-PE. Leave this section blank if the scanned Form 8453-PE signature option is used. For details, see Signing 1065 returns for electronic filing.

note
The IRS does not support the self-select PIN method (available on 1040 returns) for partnership returns.
PIN authorization indicator
This field is required only if you use the Practitioner Personal Identification Number (PIN) option to electronically sign the return. Enter
1
 if the taxpayer will enter the PIN or
2
 if the taxpayer authorized the Electronic Return Originator (ERO) to enter the taxpayer PIN. If you leave this field blank, and you enter a PIN number in the
Taxpayer PIN
 field, the application defaults the PIN authorization to Taxpayer entered PIN.
Taxpayer PIN
This field is required only if you use the Practitioner Personal Identification Number (PIN) option to electronically sign the return. Enter the taxpayer's self-selected PIN. Enter any five digits except 00000.
note
  • The taxpayer must personally enter the PIN if the taxpayer uses the Practitioner PIN option. If the ERO receives permission to enter the PIN for the taxpayer, the taxpayer must first sign Form 8879-PE, IRS e-file Signature Authorization. The ERO must retain the signed Form 8879-PE.
  • The PIN does not proforma from year to year because the entering of the PIN is the equivalent of an electronic "signature." This is in accordance with the IRS procedural steps that participating PIN program practitioners must follow.
ERO PIN
This field is required only if you use the Practitioner Personal Identification Number (PIN) option to electronically sign the return. Enter the Preparer PIN, which is a self-selected set of five numbers. Enter any five digits except 00000. The actual Electronic Return Originator (ERO) PIN is an 11-digit number. The application combines the six-digit IRS-assigned Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN) and the five-digit self-selected PIN to determine the ERO PIN.
note
  • The PIN does not proforma from year to year because the entering of the PIN is the equivalent of an electronic "signature." This is in accordance with the IRS procedural steps that participating PIN program practitioners must follow.
  • If entered, the PIN in the
    ERO PIN for Form 8879
     field (to the right of the
    Create electronic file
     checkbox) in the File and then Print Returns dialog automatically transfers to this field.
Print Form 8879-PE prior to entering PIN numbers or creating the electronic file

  • The application automatically transfers

    ERO PIN for Form 8879
     field (to the right of the
    Create electronic file
     checkbox) in the File and then Print Returns dialog and if the
    Taxpayer PIN
     field in this screen is blank.

Extension Information

File extension electronically

 if you intend to file Form 7004 electronically. If you do not enter

, the application does not prepare an electronic extension. This field is also used by various states. Use the
Suppress the creation of

Electronic funds withdrawal for extension: Requested payment date
Enter the requested payment date for the electronic funds withdrawal (direct debit) payments for Form 7004 electronic files with a balance due.
You can file early and set a future date for automatic payment. However, if filing after the due date, the payment date must be the same as the date the extension is transmitted.
note
  • If you do not enter a requested payment date, the application assumes the balance due will be paid by electronic funds transfer (EFTPS).
  • In addition to marking the
    File extension electronically
     field and completing the electronic funds withdrawal fields in this section, for extensions with electronic funds withdrawal (direct debit), complete the Account Information section in the Bank Screen.
Electronic funds withdrawal for extension: Signature date of person signing return
Enter the signature date. This is the date that the electronically filed extensions are signed. This is a mandatory field if electronic funds withdrawal is used.
note
If electronic funds withdrawal is used, the Practitioner PIN option (Form 8878-A) is the only method available to sign the extension. The scanned Form 8453-PE option is not available for extensions.
Electronic funds withdrawal for extension: PIN authorization indicator
