F8283-028-01 e-file error

If Form 8283, Section A Line 1 Column (b) checkbox 'DonatedPropertyVehicleInd' is checked, then "Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes Statement" [ContributionsOfMotorVehiclesBoatsAndAirplanesStatement] or "Contemporaneous Written Acknowledgment Statement" [ContemporaneousWrittenAcknowledgmentStatement] must be attached to 'InformationOnDonatedProperty' for the corresponding vehicle. (rule F8283-028-01)
This error happens when there is a missing PDF attachment regarding donated property.

Solution

  1. Go to the
    Income & Deduction
     input folder.
  2. Open the
    1098C
     screen.
  3. Complete the following fields to electronically file Form 1098C:
    • Date of contribution
    • Vehicle or other identification number
       (VIN)
    • At least one of:
      • Sold in arm's length transaction to unrelated party, Date of sale, and Gross proceeds from sale OR
      • Date of sale and Gross proceeds from sale OR
      • Vehicle will not be transferred for proceeds before completion of material improvements OR
      • Vehicle to be transferred to needy individual in furtherance of charitable purpose OR
      • Donor may not claim deduction of more than $500
    • Fair market value on date of contribution
If any of these boxes are not completed, the return will need to be paper filed. Attach Form 1098-C or the Contemporaneous Written Acknowledgment as a PDF following the instructions in Attaching Portable Document Format (PDF) files to electronic files with the Attachment title.
