Send an Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW) request to the IRS
Follow these steps to send an electronic funds withdrawal (EFW) request to the IRS.
- Enter EFW information (such as bank accounts, payment amounts, and payment dates) into UltraTax CS. The data entry depends on what kind of payment you want to make.
- UltraTax CS includes whatever EFW information you entered in the e-file for the return or extension.
- Before creating and transmitting the e-file, view the filing instructions and review the EFW information.
- If the instructions say to send a check, your EFW request isn't set up correctly or isn't acceptable for some reason. In that case, check your data entry to make sure you've entered all necessary information.
- If you enter your EFW request correctly, the filing instructions will show that the IRS is authorized to withdraw the payment amount from the bank on a certain day. The instructions should include the correct payment amount, bank information, and payment date.
- The IRS gets the e-file, including the EFW information.
- If accepted, the IRS is responsible for withdrawing the payment according to the information included in the e-file. If rejected, the EFW won't happen.
