Use Form 8453 to sign an e-file return
Follow these steps to use Form 8453 to sign an e-file return.

- Electronic signatures for extensions filed electronically are necessary only when using electronic funds withdrawal (EFW) to pay a balance due on the extension.
- When you complete the following steps, UltraTax CS generates Form 8878-A. The taxpayer needs to sign Form 8878-A and return it to the electronic return originator (ERO) before transmitting the electronic file. The ERO keeps this form, unless the IRS asks for it.
- When the return is complete, print a copy of Form 8453-CORP, E-file Declaration for Corporations.
- Sign the form as the ERO and have an authorized officer of the corporation sign the form.
- Do 1 of the following:
- If you're licensed for FileCabinet CS, scan the signed form into FileCabinet CS to create and store a Portable Document Format (PDF) version of the form.
- If you don't have FileCabinet CS, create a PDF of the signed form and save it to your hard drive.
- To include the PDF form in the electronic file, selectEdit,Electronic Filing Attachments, thenAdd.
- In theAttachment titlefield, select8453 Signature Documentfrom the dropdown.
- In theReturnfield, selectTax Returnfrom the dropdown.
- If you scanned the form into FileCabinet CS, selectFileCabinet CS,Select, then the PDF. If you didn't scan the form into FileCabinet CS, selectFile, thenBrowsego to the location of the PDF to attach it.noteIf you're running UltraTax CS through Virtual Office CS or Software as a Service (SaaS), you can go to files on your local network.
- SelectOKto go back to the Electronic Filing Attachment window.
- SelectView Attachmentto review the PDF file. SelectOKto close the window.
