Net Operating Loss Carryover

Income (Loss)
The
Income (Loss)
fields should reflect the taxable income or net operating loss for each of the preceding periods. Enter the taxable income or net operating loss from Form N-30 for each applicable prior taxable year. Enter income amounts as positive numbers and loss amounts as negative numbers.
(Income Offset) NOL Utilized
The application adds the amount in this field to the income or loss reflected in the
Income (Loss)
fields to determine if an NOL amount is available for carryover. If the
Income (Loss)
column is positive, enter a negative number for the NOL deductions reflected on Form N-30, Page 2. If the
Income (Loss)
column is negative, enter a positive number for the NOL utilized in prior years.

Contribution Carryover

Excess Contributions
Enter as a positive number, the amount of contributions disallowed as a deduction due to the Hawaii taxable income limitation; enter this amount for each of the five prior taxable years. The amount entered here should be equal to the total contributions disallowed. The Hawaii Charitable Contribution Carryover Worksheet displays the calculation of the current year carryover amount and can be used as a guideline in calculating the prior year excess contributions.
Utilized or Reclassed to NOL
Enter the amount of each year’s excess contributions that have been utilized and are no longer available as a deduction. The application subtracts this amount from the amount in the
Excess Contributions
field to determine the carryover available to the current year.
note
This field must include the amount of the charitable contributions that were reclassified to an NOL carryover per Reg. 1.170A-11(c)(2) and Revenue Ruling 76-145.
