E-file a combined return when the members are different form the federal consolidated group

Do the following to electronically file a New Jersey combined return when the members are different from the federal consolidated group: 
  1. Complete all data entry for each corporation which will be a member of the New Jersey combined return and clear all critical and ELF critical diagnostic messages.
  2. Open the federal consolidated return for which a New Jersey combined return with differing members will be filed.
  3. Select
    File
    then
    Save As
    to create a copy of the federal client.
  4. In the newly created client, select
    File
    , followed by
    Client Properties
    , then
    Advanced Properties
    .
  5. Then deselect any member not a part of the New Jersey combined return.
  6. Add any additional member of the New Jersey combined return that wasn't a member of the federal consolidated group.
  7. If the reporting member for the New Jersey combined return will be a member other than the parent, remove the federal parent and add the New Jersey reporting member as the parent.
  8. Reattach the federal parent as a subsidiary only if the federal parent will be joining in the New Jersey combined return as other than the reporting member.
  9. Once all the appropriate members are attached, go to the federal ELF screen and mark the
    Suppress creation of: Federal electronic file when only filing a state return
    checkbox.
    1. Review each state return and clear all critical and ELF critical diagnostic messages.
  10. New Jersey requires the federal return to be attached to the combined New Jersey return. For any member of the New Jersey combined return that's not a member of the federal consolidated group, you'll need to attach a PDF copy of that member's federal return.
  11. To attach a PDF to the return:
    1. Select
      Edit
      , followed by
      Electronic Filing Attachment
      , then
      Add
      .
    2. Select
      Product
      , then
      New Jersey
      .
    3. Select
      Return
      , then
      Tax Return
      .
    4. Go to the
      Attachment title
      field and select
      Federal Return
      .
    5. Browse to where you saved the PDF file and select
      Attach
      .
  12. Create the state electronic file by closing the combined client, then select
    File
    , then
    Print Returns
    .
  13. Select
    Government copy
    , followed by
    Create electronic file
    , then select all members of the combined New Jersey return.
  14. Transmit the electronic file via CS Connect.
