E-file a separate return for a member of a federal consolidated return
A member of a federal consolidated C Corporation income tax return can file its separate New Jersey return with the following steps. After the federal electronic file has been generated for the consolidated income tax return, you can create the separate New Jersey electronic file for each member:
- Open the member return whose New Jersey return will be filed separately for state purposes.
- SelectFilethenSave Asto create a client that will mirror that of the member client.
- In the newly created client, go to the federal ELF screen, clear theFile this return electronicallycheckbox, then pressEnteron your keyboard. Go back to theFile this return electronicallycheckbox and mark it again.noteIf you don't do this step, the state electronic file won't be generated from within the cloned client.
- While still on the federal ELF screen, mark theSuppress creation of: Federal electronic file when only filing a state returncheckbox, go to the state return, then clear all critical diagnostic messages and all electronic filing diagnostic messages.
- SelectFile,Print Returns,Government copy, thenCreate electronic fileto create the state electronic file.noteMake sure you've selected the federal return inPrintthenOptions. If you haven't selected the federal return inPrintthenOptions, the federal attachment to the state return won't generate.
- Transmit the newly created electronic file via CS Connect.
