Form 5500 e-filing mandate

The Department of Labor (DOL) mandates that you need to file any Form 5500 or 5500-SF return filed for tax years beginning January 1, 2019, or later electronically. The DOL won't accept any Form 5500 or 5500-SF submitted in paper format, and will return it to the sender.

You can file Form 5500-EZ electronically beginning tax year 2020, unless it's for a foreign plan or under the IRS Late File Penalty Relief Program.
