Prepare 706 extensions
Use this procedure to print extension forms for 1 client or a batch of clients.
UltraTax CS prepares Form 4768.
note
- Form 4768 needs to be paper filed.
- If the client is applying for an automatic 6-month extension of time to file Form 706, a reason for the extension isn't required on Form 4768; therefore, no reason prints.
- This procedure prints 1 copy of the extension for each selected client following the government collation defined in theReturn Collationwindow. If desired, you can modify this collation. For example, to prevent the extension transmittal letter and extension filing instructions from printing with the extension, change the print condition for the extension transmittal letter and extension filing instructions toNeverin the government collation in the Return Collation window inSetupthen706 Estate.
- Open the UltraTax CS client to file an extension for. If the client doesn't yet exist in the current year application, proforma a prior year client or add a new client.
- To print an extension with a tax amount or balance due, on the thePayExtscreen in thePayments & Creditsfolder, enter the applicable option in theCalculate extensionfield, and complete any other applicable fields.noteIf you leave theCalculate extensionfield blank, UltraTax CS calculates Form 4768 only as an extension of time to file.
- Each client's name, address, and extension date prints on the form. If the extension is for Form 706 or 706-NA, UltraTax CS assumes an extended date that is 15 months after the date of death. If the extension is for Form 706-A, UltraTax CS assumes an extended due date of 12 months after the date of taxable disposition/cessation of qualified use.noteThe date of taxable disposition/cessation of qualified use is entered on the706Ascreen. To print an extended due date other than the default date, enter the date(s) on thePayExtscreen.
- ChooseFilethenPrint Extensions.noteIf the security configuration allows for user-defined print options, you can set various print options for all extensions printed from this workstation.
- To print extensions for clients other than, or in addition to, the current client, selectClientsand select the clients extensions should print for.
- SelectPrint.
