Prepare an extension for a gift tax return
Follow these steps to prepare Form 8892: Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File Form 709 and/or Payment of Gift/Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax.
- Open the client's 709 return and go to the PayPen screen in the General folder.
- Select a code from theCalculate extensiondropdown.noteThe voucher (Form 8892, Part III) won't print if you selectCode 1, Extension of time to file only is selected.To prepare the proper extension for the donor or spouse, go to the 709 screen in the General folder and select an option from theReturn or extension to calculatedropdown.
