Apportionment spreadsheet (990)
Use the Apportionment spreadsheet to enter information for the apportionment factors. The spreadsheet consists of three tabs; one for each factor: Property, Payroll, and Sales.
To open the Apportionment spreadsheet, choose View, then Apportionment or press Ctrl+B with a 990 client open. Note that you'll have to attach a state return to this client to open this window.
note
- White boxes:Generally, UltraTax CS uses thewhite boxesin the state columns and the corresponding boxes in the Everywhere / (Override) column to complete the state's apportionment form. Specific information on how these boxes are combined on the form can be found in each state's Apportionment Combination table.
- Shaded boxes:Generally, UltraTax CS does not use the information you enter in theshaded boxeson a state's apportionment form. However, the amounts you enter in the shaded boxes accumulate in the Everywhere / (Override) amount, which UltraTax CS uses as the everywhere amount on the apportionment forms for other states that require information for that component.
- Statement windows:Some boxes in the spreadsheet have statement windows in which you can enter detailed information for the factor's component. UltraTax CS uses the information you enter in the statement window's Everywhere column on the state form for that component. UltraTax CS ignores the amount in the Apportionment spreadsheet's Everywhere / (Override) column for that component for that state.The statement windows include separate boxes for in-state and everywhere information. Be sure to complete the everywhere information, because UltraTax CS uses only the statement window's everywhere information for that particular component.
- Column totals:For the state, Other, and Everywhere / (Override) columns, UltraTax CS calculates the amounts entered in the white boxes and displays the total at the bottom of the column. The amounts are calculated in the same manner in which they are calculated for the apportionment form. For example, annual rents are multiplied by eight, and returns and allowances are deducted from sales.
- Detailed asset data entry allows you to classify assets for the property factor and automatically transfers the beginning-of-year and end-of-year amounts to the corresponding box in the Property tab.
- You can import data from an Excel spreadsheet or the Windows Clipboard into a statement window.
Columns in this spreadsheet
- Component- Lists the most frequently used components for this factor.
- State- Use these columns to enter the in-state amounts for the apportionment forms. Most apportionment data entry is completed in these columns. Note that only states attached to the current client's return appear as columns.
- Other- Use this column to enter component data that you would not enter in one of the state columns, such as out-of-country information or data for states that do not require income tax returns.
- Everywhere / (Override)- UltraTax CS uses the information in this column to complete the everywhere amount on the state's apportionment forms. UltraTax CS combines the amounts you enter in the state columns and the Other column, and then displays the total in the Everywhere / (Override) column.noteIf necessary, you can force the amount in the Everywhere / (Override) column. If you force the amount for all states, the overridden amount appears in red in this column.
- Federal Amount- Use this column to view information from the federal return, for your reference only. Data from this column is not used on the state apportionment forms.
