Change the default salutation and IRS service center
For 1040 returns, the default salutation on the transmittal letter is
Dear
followed by the client's first name.
- To use a word other thanDear, change the default in theDocument Editingwindow.
- To print the client's family name or some other variation of the client's name, change the salutation for the client in the 1040 screen.

For returns other than 1040 returns, the default salutation on the transmittal letter is
Dear
followed by BLANK
if you don't enter a name in the client's Letter screen. If you want to use the transmittal letter, open the Letter screen and enter the name you want to use in the Salutation
field.You can use the Letter screen to override the default service center information. UltraTax CS automatically determines the IRS service center based on the state ZIP Code entered in the general information input screen.
Follow these steps to change the default salutation and IRS service center.
- SelectFilethenOpen Clientto open the client.
- Select theGeneralfolder.
- Go to theScreen 1040tab.
- In theSalutationfield, enter the salutation you want to appear in the client's letter.
- Select theScreen Lettertab.
- From the dropdown for theIRS Service Centerfield, select a service center.
