Check out clients in UltraTax CS
You can check out client data to avoid problems that result from multiple people accessing the same client data at the same time. For example, you can mark this box when you take a client's data home or to another office location. You can also check out client data if you're working on a consolidated client and you don't want others to make changes to the member returns. If anyone tries to open the client while you have the data checked out, they'll get a message stating that the data is currently checked out.
To check out client data, follow these steps.
- SelectFilethenBackup.
- SelectClientsfrom the dropdown.
- Select the client data that you'd like to check out, then selectSelectto move them to the other pane. If you're working on a consolidated client, make sure to select the consolidation as well as the parent, subsidiaries, and eliminations clients. SelectOKto return to theBackupwindow.
- Verify that the backup location is correct. If it's not, selectModify Backup Location, go to the location, then selectOKto return to theBackupwindow.
- Mark the"Check out" selected clientscheckbox to indicate that you're checking out the client's data.
- SelectCheck Out.
- SelectDonewhen the check out process is complete.
To check the client back in, use 1 of the following options.
- Restore the client from a backup. Use this option if you need to restore an updated version of the client.
- SelectHelp,Repair,File Locks,Checked out clients, select the client, then selectDelete Lock. Use this option if you don't need to restore an updated version of the client.

- If anyone tries to open the client while you have the data checked out, they'll get this message: "Cannot open client: It is checked out by user"
- TheOpen Clientwindow will haveCkas the indicator for checked out in the status column. The checked-out client can't be opened until it's checked back in, which will remove the indicator.
- Checked-out clients will only be available for electronic filing for the individual that checked out the client data.
- Checked-out clients won't be available for selection in thePrintwindow.
- Checked-out clients won't be available for selection for printing mailing labels.
- If anyone tries to proforma the client while you have the data checked out, they'll get a message stating that the data is locked by another user.
