Create a custom statement
UltraTax CS includes many statement windows that let you enter detailed information required by taxing authorities. You can also create custom statements for any field that:
- Isn't aUnitfield for multiple-unit input screens.
- Doesn’t have a dropdown (no arrow appears next to the field).
- Doesn’t already have an attached statement window (noStatementbutton appears next to the field).
You can create custom statements in any client and make them available in all other clients. On a network, the statements you add become available to all UltraTax CS users.
note
- UltraTax CS automatically attaches a new custom statement to any client you open, add, or proforma. Once attached, you can't remove a custom statement that year.
- Because custom statements target standard dollar fields, they may not work in nonstandard fields. For example, on 1040‑US, Screen A, a custom statement onMedical miles drivenorVolunteer miles drivenwon’t work because those fields track mileage, not dollars. Attaching a custom statement to those fields makes UltraTax CS omit the amount from the return.
- Switch to input screen view. Custom statements are not available in form view.
- Place the cursor in a field that meets the previous criteria. SelectEdit, thenCustom Statementsto open theCustom Statementwindow.
- Enter the custom statement's title. UltraTax CS prints this title on the statement.
- From the dropdown list, select the statement format. The number in parentheses afterDescriptionshows how many characters you can enter in theDescriptionfield. To prevent UltraTax CS from attaching this statement to other clients, selectnone.
- SelectOKto close the window. UltraTax CS indicates the custom statement with aStatementbutton next to the field and a green vertical bar.
- Select theStatementbutton to open the custom statement and enter the detailed information.
