Rename a client's ID

Renaming a client's ID in CS Professional Suite can affect data integration and management between applications such as Fixed Assets CS and UltraTax CS.
Use
Rename
when you want to change a client’s ID across all years and files. Use Save As
if you want to create a new client while retaining the original client’s historical data. Always consider the impact on prior-year data and integration before making changes.Rename
:- Renames all files associated with a client, including prior-year depreciation data files.
- After renaming, the original client files under the old ID no longer exist—all files are now under the new ID.
Save As
- Creates a new copy of all files under a new name, including prior-year data files.
- Both the original and new client files exist independently.
- Rename a client's ID
- SelectFile, thenRename.
- In theRename Clientwindow, select the client whose ID you want to rename.noteTo find a client, enter the first few characters of the client's ID in the search field. You can also selectNamein the title bar of the list and enter the first few characters of the client's name.
- SelectRename.
- In theRenamewindow, enter the new client ID.
- SelectOK.
- SelectClose.
note
- SelectClient ID,Name, orEntityin the title bar of the list to sort the client listing by that characteristic.
- Use theFocussection to limit the clients who appear in the client listing by entity type and/or preparer/reviewer/staff.
- You can't change the name of a client's ID after sending an electronic return until you get all acknowledgments.
