Restore and troubleshoot client data from a CSD File
When you send client data to an email recipient or to file, a backup file is saved to CSD (Creative Solutions Data) file format. To restore a CSD file, the same application has to be installed and year of the application that was used to email or create the CS backup must be the same. The email recipient and person restoring the CSD file needs to also have the same application and year installed.
- Open the CSD file. The software automatically detects and recognizes the data file. TheRestorewindow opens with the client selected.
- If you're prompted to run the attachment, selectRun. If not, go to step 3. If the only available option is to save the file to disk, selectSave. Select the Desktop at the top of the list of folders for easy access. Then, locate the file on the Desktop and double-click on it to restore the client.
- SelectRestore. If the same client exists in your current UltraTax CS data location, a prompt will appear to remind you that you'll replace the existing client data.
Troubleshooting
If you have problems restoring the CSD file, check the following:
- Be sure the correct version of the program is installed, such as UltraTax CS or Fixed Asset CS. For example, if you're restoring a CSD file created using 2019 UltraTax CS, 2019 UltraTax CS must also be installed where the file is being restored.
- Mark theCSLP.exefile to run as an administrator. This file is used to open CSD files.
- Go toX:\WinCSI\Tools, where X represents the drive letter where UltraTax CS or Fixed Assets CS is installed.
- Right-click the CSLP.exe file.
- SelectProperties, then theCompatibilitytab.
- In the Privilege Level section, or the Settings section in Windows 11, mark theRun this program as an administratorcheckbox.
- SelectOK.
You may need to restart your computer to apply this change.
