Attach PDF files to e-files

Follow these steps to attach a PDF to your e-file.
note
  • The document you attach needs to be a PDF file.
  • The PDF file name needs to be fewer than 49 characters and can't contain 2 consecutive spaces.
  • Per IRS Publication 4164, each individual PDF file can't exceed 60 MB uncompressed. To prevent a possible transmission delay, we recommend that attachments are less than 10 MB.
  • The option to attach PDF files to an electronic file is available for 1040, 1041, 1120, 1065, 990, 5500, and 2290 returns.
  1. Select
    Edit
    , then
    Electronic Filing Attachments
    .
    note
    If
    Electronic Filing Attachments
    isn't available, go to the
    ELF
    screen in the
    Electronic Filing
    folder for the client's return, and mark the
    File this return electronically
    checkbox.
  2. Select
    Add
    .
  3. Choose an application from the
    Product
    dropdown.
  4. Select a
    Return
    from the dropdown. If your form isn't listed, select
    Tax Return
    .
  5. Enter a descriptive name or choose an
    Attachment title
    from the dropdown.
  6. Select
    FileCabinet CS
    if your PDF is saved there, otherwise select
    File
    and go to the location of your PDF.
  7. Select
    OK
    .
  8. Select
    View Attachment
    if you want to view the PDF you've added, or repeat the previous steps to attach more PDFs.
  9. Select
    OK
    to close the window.
