Attach PDF files to e-files
- The document you attach needs to be a PDF file.
- The PDF file name needs to be fewer than 49 characters and can't contain 2 consecutive spaces.
- Per IRS Publication 4164, each individual PDF file can't exceed 60 MB uncompressed. To prevent a possible transmission delay, we recommend that attachments are less than 10 MB.
- The option to attach PDF files to an electronic file is available for 1040, 1041, 1120, 1065, 990, 5500, and 2290 returns.
- SelectEdit, thenElectronic Filing Attachments.noteIfElectronic Filing Attachmentsisn't available, go to thescreen in theELFElectronic Filingfolder for the client's return, and mark theFile this return electronicallycheckbox.
- SelectAdd.
- Choose an application from theProductdropdown.
- Select aReturnfrom the dropdown. If your form isn't listed, selectTax Return.
- Enter a descriptive name or choose anAttachment titlefrom the dropdown.
- SelectFileCabinet CSif your PDF is saved there, otherwise selectFileand go to the location of your PDF.noteFor VO/Saas users, view Virtual Office CS or SaaS drive mappings and default locations.
- SelectOK.
- SelectView Attachmentif you want to view the PDF you've added, or repeat the previous steps to attach more PDFs.
- SelectOKto close the window.
