E-file guidelines for Michigan Business Tax (MBT)
UltraTax/Michigan MBT offers electronic filing for 1065 and 1120 returns. Enter information in the fields in the
MKELF
screen for an e-filed Michigan MBT return.When the following forms are included in a filing, the MBT return can be re-filed but the forms need to be mailed.
- Form 4, Application for Extension of Time to File Michigan Tax Returns
- Form 4589, Business Tax Film Credit Assignment
The Michigan Department of Treasury doesn't accept returns that include the following forms:
- Form 4579, Business Tax Qualified Affordable Housing Seller's Deduction
- Form 4597, Tribal Agreement Ownership Schedule
- Form 4598, Tribal Agreement Apportionment
In addition, MBT federal and state electronic filing isn't available to taxpayers who:
- Have a Michigan-issued Treasury (TR) number. You can get information and forms to apply for a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) on the IRS website, or you can call the IRS at (800) 829-4933 to register.
- Have an organization type of individual or fiduciary.
- Take either the Qualified Affordable Housing Credit or Tribal Credit.

- Balance-due return payments need to include Form 4576, MBT-V, e-file Annual Return Payment Voucher.
