Import from Fiduciary Accounting Software (FAS) to UltraTax CS
UltraTax CS can now import accounting data from Fiduciary Accounting Software (FAS) into 1041 returns.
Setup
To enable the integration, follow these steps:
- Open theSetupmenu and selectUser Preferences.
- Go to theMisctab.
- Mark theEnable Export from Fiduciary Accounting Software (FAS)checkbox.
- SelectOKto close the window.
Import
When you export accounting data from FAS, it saves the data as an ENCR file.
To import the file into UltraTax CS, follow these steps:
- Open the 1041 return that needs the import data.
- SelectUtilities, then chooseFiduciary Accounting Software (Import).
- Locate and select the ENCR file to import, then selectOpen.
- SelectOKin theImport Successfulwindow. If the import fails, refer to the next section for common error solutions.

Currently, if you export an Excel file from FAS with beneficiary data and distributions, you can't import it directly into UltraTax. Instead, use the following method:
- In FAS, go toUtilities, select1041 Excel Export, thenSave the template file.
- Copy the beneficiary data into this saved template file.
- In UltraTax, go toUtilities, then choose1041 Excel Import.
- Select the modified file.
Common errors
- Error:Incorrect filename. Should be in the format XYSSClientid
- The file name is formatted incorrectly. Update it to match theXYSSClientidconvention, where X represents the tax entity, Y is the last digit of the year, and SS is the jurisdiction (like U.S.).
- Example: For a 2022 1041 with a client named IMPORT, the file name should beF2USIMPORT.Encr.
- Error:Invalid XML
- Make sure that the year of the FAS Export matches the year of UltraTax you are importing into.
