Error: Fixed asset client is network locked

Scenario

You may get the following error message in UltraTax CS when you open a client's return.
Error message
Cannot open client 1040: The Fixed Asset client is network locked out by user: [
name
].

Solution

  1. Verify that another person at your firm is not currently working on this client.
    note
    • If another person is working on the client, UltraTax CS creates a client lock to avoid data corruption. Take no further action to remove the lock in this case.
    • If no one else is working on the client, take the following steps to remove the client lock.
  2. Open Windows File Explorer.
    note
    File Explorer is called Windows Explorer in versions of Windows before version 10.
  3. Go
    X:\WinCSI\DeprData\$DEPCID
    .
    note
    Where
    X
    is the drive where UltraTax CS is installed.
  4. Select the lock you want to delete, then press
    Delete
    .
    note
    All open clients will appear here.
  5. Select
    Yes
    to confirm the deletion.
  6. Re-open the client.

If you're licensed for Fixed Assets CS, you can remove the lock from within that application:
  1. In Fixed Assets CS, select
    Help
    , then
    Repair
    .
  2. Select the
    File Locks
    tab.
  3. Select the client, then
    Delete Lock
    .
