UltraTax CS year-specific compatibility with SafeSend

UltraTax CS is transitioning to modern authentication for SafeSend return delivery. Setup is required for UltraTax CS 2025.
SafeSend is updating the way it authenticates connections from UltraTax CS. The legacy sign in method used for return delivery is being retired, and UltraTax CS is transitioning to a more secure, modern authentication approach. The impact varies by UltraTax CS year.

UltraTax CS 2025

UltraTax CS 2025 has been updated to use the new authentication method for SafeSend return delivery. A one-time setup in
System Configuration
 needs to be completed to connect your UltraTax CS firm to your SafeSend company before return delivery will work.
To complete SafeSend setup in UltraTax CS 2025:
  1. Go to
    Setup
     and open
    System Configuration
    .
  2. Open the
    SurePrep & SafeSend Integrations
     tab.
  3. In the SafeSend Integration, make sure the status is
    Connected
    .
  4. If not connected, select
    Connect SafeSend
     and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
    note
    • If the
      Enable SafeSend Integration
       is selected but not set up, UltraTax CS will show an alert to complete setup. Select
      Yes
       to go
      Setup
       screen.
    • Setup only needs to be completed once per firm. Once connected in UltraTax CS 2025, no additional setup is required in UltraTax CS 2024.

UltraTax CS 2024

In August 2026, UltraTax CS 2024 will be updated to use the SafeSend connection set up in UltraTax CS 2025 to authenticate return delivery. No additional setup is required in UltraTax CS 2024 if the UltraTax CS 2025 setup has been completed.
note
  • You can't send returns from UltraTax CS 2024 until the SafeSend setup is done in UltraTax CS 2025. Do the UltraTax CS 2025 setup first.
  • No changes to the return delivery workflow in UltraTax CS 2024 are required.

UltraTax CS 2020-2023

UltraTax CS versions 2020-2023 won’t be updated to support the new authentication method. Effective after December 31, 2026, direct return delivery from these versions to SafeSend will no longer be available. Returns need to be uploaded manually in SafeSend.
To deliver returns from UltraTax CS 2020–2023:
  1. Sign in to SafeSend directly.
  2. Upload the return manually using the SafeSend upload workflow.
    note
    If you try to send a return in UltraTax CS 2020-2023, the sign-in window for SafeSend won't work. This is expected behavior. Returns need to be uploaded manually in SafeSend.
