Error: Final short year with the year ending in December

Before leaving this display, the data entry in the Year End Information section has to be corrected. This problem was found: If not a final return, the year end entered in the Tax year ending field is not a valid year to process in the tax package currently in use. If a final return, the prior year end must be entered in the Most recent field.

Solution

Use any month prior to December to create the final short year return.
Short year ending in December of the next tax year isn't treated as a valid tax year end. You'll need to complete the final short year return with a December year end in the most recent year of the application.
For example, a final short year return with a year end of December 8,

will need to be completed in the
2026
application. You'll get this error if you're trying to complete it in
2025
application.
