Sign 1120 or 990 e-file using the Practitioner PIN option
There are 2 options for signing an 1120 or 990 e-file:
Practitioner PIN
or Scanned Form 8453
. Do the following to sign using the Practitioner PIN option.- Go to theElectronic Filingfolder and complete theSignature datefield on theELFscreen. For 1120 returns, this should be the date Form 8879-C, 8879-S, or 8879-I will be signed by the officer of the Corporation. For 990 returns, this should be the date Form 8879-EO will be signed by the officer of the Organization.
- Enter 5 numbers in theERO PINfield. You can enter any 5 digits other than 00000. The actual ERO PIN is an 11-digit number, of which the first 6 digits are your IRS supplied EFIN and the last 5 digits consist of the self-selected numbers entered on theELFscreen.
- Have the client complete theTaxpayer PINfield, which is a self-selected set of 5 numbers other than 00000.noteAs the Electronic Return Originator (ERO), you can enter this PIN if you have the taxpayer's written signature on Form 8879-C, 8879-S, 8879-I, or 8879-EO, IRS e-file Signature Authorization Form, which will print with the return if you elect to use the PIN. Don’t mail this form to the IRS unless requested to do so, but keep it with your records.
