Create and print actionable items
To print a separate actionable items set of documents with your web or PDF client organizer or return, follow this procedure for any return type in UltraTax CS.

The option to generate actionable items is only available when you electronically file the return, and will only generate with electronic versions of the return (
Web
, Email PDF
, or PDF to file
).Set up your collation to create actionable items
Follow these steps to select which documents to include in actionable items.
- SelectSetup,Entity, then theFederalorOrganizertab (whereEntityrefers to the return type).
- If you're setting up actionable items for the return on theFederaltab, follow steps 3-5. If you're setting up actionable items for theOrganizer, skip to step 6.
- In theCollationsection, select theTax Returnbutton.
- On theGovernmenttab, select the forms you want to include as an actionable item and verify the print condition is set toAs required.
- UnderWhen filing electronically, selectInclude in Email/Web attachmentand then selectOKtwice.Notes: To remove an object from the actionable items, clear theInclude in Email/Web attachmentcheckbox. If you want an object to print on paper when you file electronically, you'll need to select thePrint on papercheckbox.
- In theCollationsection on theOrganizertab, select theOrganizerbutton.
- Select the forms you want to include as an actionable item and verify the print condition is set toAs required.
- Select theInclude in Electronic Orgoption and selectAction Items PDF. SelectOKtwice.
Email a PDF of a return
Use this option if you have a MAPI-compliant email application (for example, Microsoft Outlook).
- SelectFile, thenPrint Returns, then select theClientsbutton to select the clients you want to print.
- SelectGovernment copyand thenCreate electronic file.
- SelectClient Copy, thenElectronic Delivery, thenEmail PDF. The text(with separate Actionable Items PDF)should display next toElectronic delivery.noteYou need to enter aFirm EmailandTPorSP EmailunderSetup, thenClient Communications. For 1040 clients, UltraTax CS sends the email to the individual designated in theEmail Tocolumn ofClient Communications.
- SelectPreparer copyandFileCabinet CSif you want.
- Select thePrintbutton to generate the email with actionable items.
Create a PDF to file for a return
Use this option if you don't have a MAPI-compliant email application (for example, Microsoft Outlook).
- Select thePrintbutton to generate the email with actionable items.
- SelectGovernment copyand thenCreate electronic file.
- SelectClient copy, thenElectronic delivery, then selectPDF to file. The text(with separate Actionable Items PDF)should display next toElectronic delivery.
- In thePrint destinationssection of the window, select the ellipsis button next toPDF to fileto change the location where the PDF files are saved.
- SelectPreparer copyandFileCabinet CSif needed.
- Select thePrintbutton to create the PDF files in the location you specified.
Assemble a return for the web
Use this option to create actionable items to send to the client's NetClient CS portal.
- SelectSetup, thenClient Communication.
- Verify that aTP emailis entered for the client andReturn deliveryis set toWeb.
- SelectFile, thenPrint Returns, then select theClientsbutton to select the clients you want to print.
- SelectGovernment copyand onlyCreate electronic file.
- SelectClient copy, thenElectronic delivery, thenWeb. The text(with separate Actionable Items PDF)should display next toElectronic delivery.
- Transmit the return to the client's NetClient CS portal.
- Your client will see 2 separate documents in their portal.
Email a PDF of an organizer
Use this option if you use a MAPI-compliant email application, such as Microsoft Outlook.
- SelectFile, thenPrint Organizers, then select theClientsbutton to select the clients you want to print.
- SelectEmail PDF, then select theEmailbutton.Note: You need to enter aFirm EmailandTPorSP EmailunderSetup, thenClient Communications. For 1040 clients, UltraTax CS sends the email to the individual designated in theEmail Tocolumn ofClient Communications.
Create a PDF to file of an organizer
Use this option if you don't use a MAPI-compliant email application, such as Microsoft Outlook.
- SelectFile, thenPrint Organizers, then theClientsbutton to select the clients you want to print.
- SelectPDF to fileand verify the location to which the PDF files will be saved. To change the default location path, select the ellipsis button next to thePDF to fileoption and change the path.
- SelectAssemble.
Assemble a Web organizer
Use this option to send actionable items to the client's NetClient CS portal with the organizer.
- SelectSetup, thenClient Communication.
- Verify that aTP emailis entered for the client andReturn deliveryis set toWeb.
- If you want your client's NetClient CS sign-in to be their email address, select theWeb Delivery Optionsbutton, then select theUse taxpayer's email addressas NetClient CS portal sign-in option.
- SelectFile, thenPrint Organizers, then theClientsbutton and select the clients you want to print.
- SelectWeb, thenAssemble.
- Transmit the web organizer to the client's NetClient CS portal.
- Your client will see 2 separate documents in their portal.
Send a return with SafeSend
You can use this option if you have a SafeSend account. You'll need to enable integration in both SafeSend and UltraTax CS to use this option.
