Troubleshoot print issues in CS Professional Suite

If you experience printing errors, you may not get the output you expect. Printing problems can show up in several ways, such as:
  • You can't print from a CS Professional Suite application
  • The print job appears offset or skewed
  • The print job uses the wrong or an unreadable font
  • Pages are missing from the print job
To resolve these issues, follow these troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Duplicate the behavior

Start by trying to reproduce the problem from another source. Change only 1 variable at a time to help identify the root cause.
Scenario 1: Test another application.
  • Print from a non-CS Professional Suite application (like Notepad or Microsoft Word).
    • If you see the same problem, the issue is not limited to CS Professional Suite. Contact your qualified IT professional for further help.
    • If the problem doesn’t appear, proceed to the next scenario.
Scenario 2: Try a different printer or print driver.
  • In your CS Professional Suite application’s print window, select a different printer. If you don’t have another physical printer, use a PDF print driver.
    • If the issue occurs on another printer, the problem isn’t with the printer or driver. Move to the next scenario.
    • If the issue doesn’t occur, the original printer or driver is likely the cause. Contact your qualified IT professional for help with that printer or driver.
Scenario 3: Use another computer or Windows profile.
  • Try to print from a different computer or another Windows profile on the same computer.
    • If the issue happens again, it's not specific to a workstation or profile. If it also happens with other printers, the application is likely the source.
    • If the issue doesn’t happen, the problem may be workstation- or user-specific. Possible causes include the Windows print spooler, print driver, or user-specific application files.

Step 2: Computer or user profile troubleshooting

If the previous steps don’t resolve the issue, try these computer or user profile troubleshooting steps:
Update drivers
  • Always keep your printer and scanner drivers up to date, especially after an operating system update. Contact your printer or scanner manufacturer for the latest drivers.
Turn off advanced printing features.
  1. Run a search, enter
    devices and printers
    , and select
    Devices and Printers
    .
  2. Right-click the printer and select
    Printer properties
    .
  3. Go to the
    Advanced
    tab.
  4. Clear the
    Enable advanced printing features
    checkbox.
  5. Select
    OK
    .
  6. Re-open the application and try to print.
Change Windows default printer driver.
  • Change your default printer in Windows to another printer. If this resolves the issue, try changing back to the original to see if the issue returns.

Step 3: Application troubleshooting

If the issue appears specific to a CS Professional Suite application, follow these steps:

UltraTax CS

There are a number of options within UltraTax CS that affect printing.
  • Configure print options
    • Go to
      Setup
      Office Configuration
      Print Options
to adjust settings for returns, reports, input screens, watermarks, and client documents
  • Rename user control and print control files
    1. Close UltraTax CS.
    2. Go to
      X:\WinCSI\UTYYSys
(where X is your install drive and YY is your UltraTax CS version).
    3. Rename the following files (where y is your version number):
      • _yUSSPLR.[user]
      • _yUSUMSC.[user]
      • _yUSSPLP.[user]
      • _yUSSPLD.[user]
  • Change printer driver interaction
    1. Go to
      Help
      Repair
      Misc
      tab.
    2. Try marking these checkboxes to resolve your issue (these are global settings):
      • Minimize Printer Driver Interaction
: Use this if your printed pages are offset in different directions.
      • Render Printed Images in Documents without Hardware Acceleration
: Use this if you get errors printing documents with bitmap graphics.
    3. elect
      OK
and attempt to print again. If one option doesn’t help, try the other or both together.
  • If you've installed Fixed Assets CS or FileCabinet CS
    • If either application isn’t properly registered, printing issues may occur.
      • Fixed Assets CS
: Run Desktop Setup by going to
        Start
        Run
        and entering
        X:\WinCSI\DSW\Desktop\Setup.exe
(where X is the drive where Fixed Assets CS is installed).
      • FileCabinet CS
        : Unregister by entering
        regsvr32 -u X:\WinCSI\Cabinet\cscabsv.dll
        in
        Start
        Run
        . Re-register by running
        regsvr32 X:\WinCSI\Cabinet\cscabsv.dll
(where X is the drive where FileCabinet CS is installed).

FileCabinet CS

You can print documents from this application, and you can also install its optional print driver to print directly to FileCabinet CS.

Workpapers CS

Install the optional print driver to print documents to a client’s engagement binder in the Workpapers Dashboard.
