Send tax returns to a PDF file
You can send tax returns to a PDF file for archiving or delivery to the client using a web-based email service or file exchange.
Setup options for sending a tax return to a PDF file
- Go toSetup, thenClient Communications.
- For clients that you want to send the tax return to a PDF, selectFile (PDF)in theReturn Deliverycolumn.noteYou can re-assign the Return delivery in bulk by going toUtilities, thenReassign Clientsand changing theCategory to Return Delivery.
- Select which password you want to use for each PDF file by selecting thePasswordbutton.
Configure the format of the PDF file
- Go toSetup,Office Configuration,Print Options, then select thePDF File Optionsbutton.
- On theOptionstab, select thePrint separate PDFfile for each federal and state return if you want a separate PDF for each of the client's tax returns.
- You can specify the naming conventions of the PDF in theFile Name Variablesection andDocument Namestab.
- The contents of the PDF is populated from the client copy of the tax return. To edit the contents of the PDF go toSetup, then1040 Individual(or another entity), then theFederaltab (state tab if applicable), then theTax Returnbutton, then theClienttab. Items markedNeverwon't be included in the PDF.
Create the PDF file
- Go toFile, thenPrint Returns.
- In thePDF to Filefield, select the file location where you want to save the file.
- SelectClient Copy,Electronic delivery, andPDF to File. Clear thePassword protect PDFsfield if you don't want the PDF password protected.noteIf you're batch-assembling the PDFs, select theClientsbutton to select multiple clients to create PDF files for.
- Select thePrint/Assemblebutton.
