Send tax returns to clients by email
Complete the following tasks to send tax returns to clients as Portable Document Format (PDF) files and to password protect PDF files that you send to clients via email.
Use a MAPI-compliant email service
If your email service supports the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) protocol, follow these steps to create and send PDF files of tax returns to clients by email.
- SelectSetup, thenClient Communications, enter the client's email address, selectEmail (PDF)as the return delivery method.
- Select thePasswordbutton in theClient Communicationswindow and specify the password for the client's return. SelectOKwhen you are done.noteWe recommend you use the default options in the PDF Password Delivery Options window to have UltraTax CS explain the electronic delivery password.
- SelectFile, thenPrint Returns.
- In thePrint Returnswindow, selectClient copyandElectronic deliverycheckboxes, and then select theEmail PDFoption.noteEnsure that thePassword protect PDFscheckbox is marked on thePrint Returnswindow.
- SelectClientsto select the client to whom you want to send the tax return. Then, chooseSelectandOK.
- SelectEmail, then selectOK.
Use a web-based email service
If your email service is not MAPI-complaint, follow these steps to create and save PDF files of client tax returns.
- SelectSetup, thenClient Communications, select File (PDF) as the return delivery method, and selectPasswordto set password specifications. SelectOKwhen you are done.
- SelectFile, thenPrint Returns.
- In thePrint Returnswindow, select theClient copyandElectronic deliverycheckboxes, and then select thePDF to fileoption.
- Select a file location where you want to save the PDF file of the tax return.
- SelectClientsto select the client to whom you want to send the tax return. Then, selectSelectandOK.noteEnsure that thePassword protect PDFscheckbox is marked on thePrint Returnswindow.
- In thePrint Returnswindow, selectAssembleto create and save the file to the location you specified.
- In theFile PDF Statuswindow, select theOpen Target Folderto open the folder in which you saved the PDF file of the tax return, or selectOKto close the window.
- Manually attach the PDF file to an email message using your web-based email service.noteYou will need to indicate that the PDF file is password-protected and provide password information.
