Troubleshoot printing extension filing instructions

The information in this article will help you troubleshoot problems with printing extension filing instructions.
By default, the extension filing instructions and extension transmittal letters are configured to print as required. If your extension filing instructions and/or transmittal letter aren't printing, review the following settings.

Verify extension print options

  1. With the client return open, select
    File
    , then
    Print Extensions
     and select
    Create electronic file
    .
  2. Select the
    Options
     button.
  3. Select the
    Extension Print Options
     tab.
  4. Unless you're completing Form 2350 or a 2nd extension, make sure that
    First extension
     is selected. Also make sure that the
    Suppress client documents
     checkbox isn't selected.
  5. Select
    OK
    .
  6. Preview the extension.

Review print collation settings

  1. Select
    Setup
    , then the entity type (for example,
    1040 Individual
    ).
  2. On the
    Federal
     tab, select the
    Tax Return
     button in the
    Collation
     group box.
  3. Enter "extension filing instructions" in the
    Find what
     field.
  4. Select the
    Find
     button.
  5. With the
    Extension Filing Instructions
     highlighted in the list of returns, review the settings in the
    Print conditions
     and
    When filing electronically
     group boxes. By default,
    As Required
     and
    Print on paper
     are selected for the
    Government
     collation.
  6. If you made changes to your collation settings, select
    OK
     twice and preview the extension by going to
    File
    , then
    Print Extensions
    .
note
If you proforma'd your print collation settings from the previous year of UltraTax CS, the default collation settings might have been replaced.

Review Screen Ext data entry and delete screen data if needed

This process will erase all data entry on
Screen Ext
. Before trying this troubleshooting option, review your extension print options and collation settings using the
Review print collation settings
 procedure.
  1. Go to the
    Payments
     folder, then open
    Screen Ext
    .
  2. Review the data entry on this screen. It might be helpful to print this input screen before proceeding to the next step. To do this, select
    File
    , then
    Print Current Page
    .
  3. On
    Screen Ext
    , select
    Edit
    , then
    Delete Screen Data
    .
  4. Re-enter any information you need to on
    Screen Ext
    .
  5. Preview the extension by going to
    File
    , then
    Print Extensions
    .
