Assemble Form 8878 for eSignature with a 1040, 1065, or 1120 extension
You can send a client's 1040, 1065, or 1120 extension with the Form 8878 (IRS e-file Signature Authorization) to be electronically signed using the eSignature feature.
Do the following to assemble the eSignature document via
File
then Print Extensions
:- EnableeSignature.
- With the client open, selectFilethenPrint Extensions.
- Mark theElectronic deliverycheckbox and selecteSignature.noteIf you don't want to print the extension on paper, unmark thePapercheckbox.
- SelectAssemble.

- You'll incur a nominal, per-envelope fee for each successful completion of eSignatures.
- You can assemble eSignature documents for multiple clients at a time. To do so, selectClientsin thePrint Extensionswindow. Select the clients you want to assemble then selectOK.
- The eSignature process requires a valid email address. During eSignature assembly, the application will notify you if a client doesn't have an email address entered inSetup,Client Communications, thenEmail Address.
- If the return has a filing status of married filing joint, a unique email address is required for both the taxpayer and the spouse. To enter an email address for the spouse, selectSpfrom the dropdown in theEmail Addresscolumn then enter the spouse's email address.
