Assemble and transmit eSignature documents with the tax return
Assemble the eSignature documents
- Enable theeSignatureoption.
- With the return open, selectFile, thenPrint Returns.
- Mark theClient copycheckbox.
- SelectElectronic deliverytheneSignature.noteNote that if you don't want to print the return on paper, clear thePapercheckbox.
- SelectAssemble.

- You'll incur a nominal, per-envelope fee for each successful eSignature completion.
- To include the engagement letter with the tax return, choose the application (for example, 1040 Individual) from the Setup menu, go to the Federal tab, selectOther Return Options, go to the Client Documents tab, and mark the checkbox to print the engagement letter.
- You can assemble eSignature documents for multiple clients at the same time by selecting theClientsin thePrint Organizerswindow. Select the clients you want to assemble and selectOKwhen you're finished.
- The eSignature process requires a valid email address. If a client doesn't have an email address (underSetup,Client Communications, thenEmail address) you'll receive a notification message.
- 1040 returns: If the return has a filing status of married filing joint, a unique email address is required for both the taxpayer and the spouse. To enter an email address for the spouse, selectSpfrom the dropdown in theEmail Addresscolumn and then enter the spouse's email address.
Transmit the eSignature documents using CS Connect
After the tax return assembles, follow these steps to transmit the documents using CS Connect.
- SelectCS Connecton the toolbar.
- Turn theTransmit organizers and eSignature documentsswitch toYes.noteIf the switch is unavailable or you can't select it, this means there aren't any eSignature packages to transmit. If this happens, try to assemble the eSignature package again.
- Go to theWeb Deliverytab.
- Select the clients you want to transmit. Clients with pending eSignature documents are noted with a green exclamation point.
- SelectConnect.
The taxpayer (and spouse, if applicable) will receive an email with a secure link to a welcome screen where they can begin the eSignature process.

For e-file signature authorization forms, such as Form 8879, only the tax returns that pertain to that e-file signature authorization form will be listed as eSignature documents to review. If a state or local tax return doesn't require an e-file signature authorization, that jurisdiction's tax return won't be listed as an eSignature document to review.
Track and retrieve signed eSignature documents
The UltraTax CS home page lets you review the status of each eSignature document that you send to your clients. After the client signs a document, you can retrieve the signed document using CS Connect.
