About Tax Automation

Tax Automation is a single automated workflow that helps you submit gathered client data and process their information from start to final review.
For tax year 2025, the 1st piece is available to automate the preparation process by extracting data from source documents, verifying results, and importing into UltraTax.

How it works

Tax Automation is available if you're licensed for UltraTax CS, SurePrep 1040SCAN PRO, 1040SCANverify Onshore, or 1040SCANverify Offshore. You can upload, process, review, and import data to tax returns.
In Tax Automation you can:
  • Upload clients' source documents and add them to created binders.
  • Review and verify that the extracted data is correct and complete.
  • Import extracted data to tax returns.
  • Resolve issues that come up during processing.
  • Download annotated and bookmarked client documents for handy reference.
This is a high-level overview of the process:
  1. The client signs in to their portal to complete the questionnaire and upload the requested documents.
  2. Tax Automation automatically processes the uploaded documents once the client uploads at least 75% of the requested list.
  3. You review and verify the documents.
  4. UltraTax CS automatically imports the data when you open the client's return.
  5. You review imported data and the client's documents for any additional data entry that's needed for the return.

from the UltraTax CS toolbar.
