Error: Failed to install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package

Scenario

You may get the following error message when installing or updating some CS Professional Suite applications.
Error message
Failed to install Microsoft Visual C++ YYYY Redistributable Package, where YYYY is the version of Visual C++.
Microsoft Visual C++ failed to install.

Solution 1: Re-install the package

Follow these steps if you receive the error when installing the application.

Although CS Professional Suite applications use .NET Framework and Visual C++, Thomson Reuters isn't responsible for the maintenance or support of these components. These operating system components may be used by applications outside of the CS Professional Suite when repairing or reinstalling. If you experience any issues beyond the guidelines listed below, contact your qualified IT professional or Microsoft support.
  1. Try repairing the versions of Microsoft Visual C++ referenced in the error message.
  2. Uninstall all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ referenced in the error message.
  3. Reinstall Visual C++ by running the desktop setup or reinstalling the application.
    note
    Replace
    X
    with the drive where the
    Shared Files
    are installed.
    • Go to
      X:\WinCSI\Workpapers CS\Desktop\
      and run the
      Setup.exe
      file.

Solution 2: Update Accounting CS or Workpapers CS

When updating Accounting CS or Workpapers CS, you may see an error that stops the update process and says that Microsoft Visual C++ failed to install. To resolve, have your IT professional try the following steps.
  1. Close Accounting CS or Workpapers CS.
  2. Go to
    Control Panel
    and select
    Programs and Features
    .
  3. Uninstall all Visual C++ items for 2013 and 2015 versions.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Download the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable package.
  6. Go to the following locations:
    WINCSI\Workpapers CS\Desktop\MSI\VC2013\
    and
    WINCSI\Accounting CS\Desktop\MSI\VC2015\
  7. Replace the appropriate year's
    vcredist_x86.exe
    (from Step 5) into the associated year's folder.
  8. Apply the update or install again.
If the previous steps don't fix the problem, turn off the antivirus and firewall and rerun desktop setup.
