Thomson Reuters and Capita Company Secretarial Services team up to provide Online Directors Training and Development

eLearning Solution to help directors understand their statutory duties and best practice

LONDON –Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, and Capita Company Secretarial Services, the UK’s largest professional services company secretarial team, today announced the launch of a suite of eLearning solutions for directors’ training and certification. The courses will provide an overview of the key directorial roles, responsibilities and penalties under company law, helping organisations to safeguard against shortcomings in corporate compliance and navigate the increasingly complex regulatory landscape.

The launch of the eLearning solutions comes at a time of increased focus on the conduct of directors. Serving all levels of directors, the courses provide a user friendly and effective way to embed subsidiary governance across group structures. They will be delivered online via the web so that materials are readily available and can be accessed on the move to serve increasingly mobile and international management teams. Unlike other training courses, there are optional modules to suit listed, unlisted and regulated companies and bespoke modules can also be created if required. In addition, the courses provide a crucial audit trail for regulators to demonstrate and confirm an organisation’s commitment to compliance and best practice.

“Thomson Reuters Governance, Risk & Compliance business first partnered with Capita Company Secretarial Services in 2011 to provide eLearning around the Bribery Act,” said Mark Schlageter, managing director, Governance, Risk & Compliance, Thomson Reuters. “The volume and pace of regulatory change and the start of big implementation programmes for major complex legislation continue to pile diverse pressures on compliance functions and boards of directors. It is therefore essential that the effective management of risk and compliance has key contribution not only from a firm’s compliance function but also from its board and directors. We look forward to building on our partnership with Capita Company Secretarial Services as we launch this exciting programme.”

"We know, from speaking to company directors on a regular basis, that recent reporting and other regulatory changes are making their roles increasingly complex and subject to scrutiny,” said Georgina Morgan, director, Capita Company Secretarial Services. “This online training can be completed when the demands of the ‘day’ job are less evident and will help to ensure that senior staff are fully aware of their duties under the Companies Act and related law.”
