Thomson Reuters Announces Winners of 2014 StarMine Analyst Awards - Asia

Deutsche Bank recognized as the top brokerage firm; Chaw Sook Ting of RHB Research Institute and Johnny Lau of Sunwah Kingsway take top individual awards

HONG KONG – StarMine, a Thomson Reuters company, today announced the winners of the 2014 StarMine Analyst Awards for Asia. This is the tenth year that StarMine has presented its awards to the top stock analysts and brokerage firms in Asia.

StarMine, a leading provider of objective ratings of sell-side securities analysts, measures the performance of analysts based on the industry excess returns of their buy/sell recommendations and the accuracy of their earnings estimates. The 2014 awards recognise the sell-side analysts who have shown outstanding performance either as stock pickers and/or earnings estimators during the fiscal period that reported between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014.

“With a changing sell-side research landscape, real rigour was required in the research as analysts formulated their forecasts and recommendations. Analysts had to deal with a discerning institutional investor that wanted more research connection capabilities to help them understand the links between other asset classes,” said Raj Shah, head of StarMine sell-side research and analytics at Thomson Reuters. “Winning analysts were those that had the courage to go against market consensus – they had to really justify their analysis. Congratulations to all of this year’s award-winning analysts.”

Analysts are awarded prizes in three main categories: stock recommendation performance relative to specific industry benchmarks (Stock Pickers), accuracy in forecasting earnings as compared with peers (Earnings Estimators) and brokerage firms whose analysts win the most awards (Most Award-Winning Brokers).
