Thomson Reuters Announces Winners of 2014 StarMine Analyst Awards - Europe

Barclays recognised as the top brokerage firm; Cormac Leech of Liberum and Benjamin Rosenberger of UBS take top individual awards

LONDON - StarMine, a Thomson Reuters company, today announced the winners of the 2014 StarMine Analyst Awards – Europe. This is the twelfth year that StarMine has presented its awards to the top stock analysts and brokerage firms in Europe.

StarMine, a leading provider of objective ratings of sell-side securities analysts, measures the performance of analysts based on the industry excess returns of their buy/sell recommendations and the accuracy of their earnings estimates. The 2014 awards recognise the sell-side analysts who have shown outstanding performance either as stock pickers and/or earnings estimators during the fiscal period that reported between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014.

“Market conditions continued to be challenging as competition among sell-side firms remained fierce, making the analysts’ job as hard as ever. Analysts had to react to the changing demands of the buy-side while continuing to provide a complete view of the markets,” said Raj Shah, head of StarMine sell-side research and analytics at Thomson Reuters. “Winning analysts were those who were not afraid to make a sell recommendation, and issued estimates that were more timely and accurate than their peers. Congratulations to all of this year’s award-winning analysts.”

Analysts are awarded prizes in three main categories: stock recommendation performance relative to specific industry benchmarks (Stock Pickers), accuracy in forecasting earnings as compared with peers (Earnings Estimators) and brokerage firms whose analysts win the most awards (Most Award-Winning Brokers).
