Thomson Reuters Announces Winners of 2014 StarMine Analyst Awards - Japan

Daiwa Securities recognised as the top brokerage firm; Nomura and BofA Merrill Lynch placed second and third, respectively.

Tokyo - StarMine, a Thomson Reuters company, today announced the winners of the 2014 StarMine Analyst Awards for Japan. This is the tenth year that StarMine has presented its awards to the top stock analysts and brokerage firms in Japan.

StarMine, a leading provider of objective ratings of sell-side securities analysts, measures the performance of analysts based on the industry excess returns of their buy/sell recommendations and the accuracy of their earnings estimates. The 2014 awards recognise the sell-side analysts who have shown outstanding performance either as stock pickers that reported between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014, and/or earnings estimators on the fiscal period that reported between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014.

Raj Shah, head of StarMine sell-side research and analytics at Thomson Reuters, added, ““Market conditions continued to be challenging as competition among sell-side firms remained fierce, making the analysts’ job as hard as ever. Analysts had to react to the changing demands of the buy-side while continuing to provide a complete view of the markets. Winning analysts were those who were not afraid to make a sell recommendation, and issued estimates that were more timely and accurate than their peers. Congratulations to all of this year’s award-winning analysts.”

Analysts are awarded prizes in three main categories: stock recommendation performance relative to specific industry benchmarks (Stock Pickers), accuracy in forecasting earnings as compared with peers (Earnings Estimators) and brokerage firms whose analysts win the most awards (Most Award-Winning Brokers).

The winners of StarMine Analysts Awards 2014 Japan are:
