Thomson Reuters UltraTax CS Wins Kansas Secretary of State's NASS Medallion Award

Dexter - Thomson Reuters today announced that UltraTax CS received a NASS Medallion Award from Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach. The award was presented in honor of a new state-of-the-art innovation in electronic tax preparation for business customers. It was presented on August 18 during a press conference in Leawood, Kansas.

The new online filing service transmits annual report filings via UltraTax CS, Thomson Reuters comprehensive professional tax software product for boosting tax preparation efficiency. The service uses a standard for annual report filing developed by the secretary of state's office based on the XML filing standard adopted by the International Association of Commercial Administrators. This standard is now available for use by other vendors whose software supports annual report preparation.

Using this service, businesses can delegate annual report filing to their accountants and tax preparers. All parties benefit from this new process. Professionals no longer need to print and hand their clients paperwork, eliminating the time and expense of mailing as well as the possibility of lost or forgotten paperwork. Business owners no longer have to remember to submit paperwork to the secretary of state. Because information no longer needs to be transferred from paper to internal systems, filings can be completed faster, data quality is improved, and information from the filings is available sooner.

“We are honored to receive this prestigious award from the Kansas Secretary of State,” said Jon Baron, managing director, professional segment, in the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters. “This new online filing service reflects our continued commitment to providing customers with the most advanced technology in order to help streamline their workflow and increase both productivity and profitability.”

"I am thrilled to announce this achievement, and to thank Thomson Reuters for being the first company to offer tax software that allows accountants and tax preparers to electronically file annual reports on behalf of their Kansas business customers," said Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State. "The implementation of this service makes filing annual reports easier for our customers and improves the efficiency of our office. We are excited by the success of this public-private partnership and look forward to expanding this service."

The idea for this enhancement was suggested by a customer of the secretary of state's office, Scot Henderson. He is a partner with Long & Associates Public Accountants, Inc., where he serves as an accountant and manager of the Concordia branch. Henderson is also a long-standing customer of Thomson Reuters tax preparation product, UltraTax CS.

The NASS Medallion Award recognizes outstanding service and dedication to furthering the mission of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), including promotion of elections, civic education, service to state government, and commitment to giving.
