Thomson Reuters Announces Winners of 2015 StarMine Analyst Awards – Europe

Goldman Sachs recognized as the top brokerage firm; Bjorn Krook, of ABN Amro Bank and Petri Aho, of Inderes, take top individual awards

London – Thomson Reuters today announced the winners of the 2015 StarMine Analyst Awards for Europe. This is the thirteenth year that StarMine has presented its awards to the top stock analysts and brokerage firms in Europe.

StarMine, a leading provider of objective ratings of sell-side securities analysts, measures the performance of analysts based on the industry excess returns of their buy/sell recommendations and the accuracy of their earnings estimates. The 2015 awards recognise the sell-side analysts who have shown outstanding performance either as stock pickers based on the calendar year of 2014, and/or earnings estimators on the fiscal period that reported between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015.

“The major focus of our analysts' time is attempting to translate their industry and company knowledge into the most current and accurate forecasts - this is key to understand which stocks are most mis-priced. Hence, we are delighted with this award recognising our forecasting ability and our stock selection,” said John Sawtell and Michele Della Vigna, Co-Directors of European Research at Goldman Sachs.

Raj Shah, head of StarMine sell-side research at Thomson Reuters, added, “The sell-side research environment remained as interesting as ever. Market forces played a dominant influence on the direction and volatility of markets, making the analysts’ job as tough as ever. Analysts had to be responsive to the changes in the sorts of research and analysis requested by fund managers. Winning analysts were those that had the courage to go against market consensus – they had to differentiate their research and opinions compared to their peers and offer portfolio managers insight on the best places to invest, and scored well for issuing estimates that were timely and different from consensus. Congratulations to all of this year’s ranked analysts.”

Analysts are awarded prizes in three main categories: stock recommendation performance relative to specific industry benchmarks (“Stock Pickers”), accuracy in forecasting earnings as compared with peers (“Earnings Estimators”) and brokerage firms whose analysts win the most awards (“Most Award-Winning Brokers”).
