Thomson Reuters Announces Winners of 2015 StarMine Analyst Awards – United Kingdom and Ireland

Liberum recognized as the top brokerage firm; Eoin Lambe, of Liberum and James Edwardes Jones, of RBC Capital Markets take top individual awards

London – Thomson Reuters today announced the winners of the 2015 StarMine Analyst Awards for United Kingdom and Ireland. This is the thirteenth year that StarMine has presented its awards to the top stock analysts and brokerage firms across United Kingdom and Ireland.

StarMine, a leading provider of objective ratings of sell-side securities analysts, measures the performance of analysts based on the industry excess returns of their buy/sell recommendations and the accuracy of their earnings estimates. The 2015 awards recognise the sell-side analysts who have shown outstanding performance either as stock pickers based on the calendar year of 2014, and/or earnings estimators on the fiscal period that reported between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015.

“Fund managers are under increasing pressure to deliver returns to their investors and brokers need to demonstrate their value. This award is proof that hard work, industry expertise and in depth company analysis at Liberum generates alpha for our clients and is all part of our focus on delivering an excellent service”, said Joe Brent, Head of Research at Liberum.

Raj Shah, head of StarMine sell-side research at Thomson Reuters, added, “Market conditions continued to be challenging as competition among sell-side firms remained fierce, making the analysts’ job as hard as ever. Analysts had to be more relevant, as the needs of their clients became more complex and ever-changing.  As well as offering something more bespoke, analysts had to get closer to clients, to understand what was really needed and then seamlessly delivering it.  Winning analysts were those who were not afraid to make a sell recommendation, and issued estimates that were more timely and accurate than their peers. Congratulations to all of this year’s ranked analysts.”

Analysts are awarded prizes in three main categories: stock recommendation performance relative to specific industry benchmarks (“Stock Pickers”), accuracy in forecasting earnings as compared with peers (“Earnings Estimators”) and brokerage firms whose analysts win the most awards (“Most Award-Winning Brokers”).
