Westlaw Global Search Improves Functionality for Firm Central Customers

Firm Central Named One of the Top 25 Products for 2016 by TechnoLawyer Newsletter

EAGAN, MINN. – Thomson Reuters Firm Central users can now find the most relevant documents for a task or matter faster and easier than ever. Firm Central is the only cloud-based practice management solution that provides full-text search of a firm’s uploaded documents, allowing thorough searching of a firm’s existing work product.

Westlaw Global Search results now include content from Firm Central document folders. A single search by Firm Central customers provides comprehensive results including Westlaw research, as well as documents stored in Firm Central Folders, including firm documents, Thomson Reuters Doc & Form Builder forms and previous Westlaw research results. Users can quickly and easily find documents that were created for a similar case, regardless of who in the firm authored the document, or whether the search terms appear in the body text or title of the document.

Results are categorized in an enhanced results list. Users can select a document and view it in the Westlaw document viewer. Results include “breadcrumb” links to the applicable Matter and Documents folders in Firm Central. Documents uploaded to Firm Central also contain links to the underlying authority on Westlaw and the KeyCite flags.

“Users can now find the most relevant documents they need within seconds – whether from Westlaw research or their own Firm Central centralized case file,” said Karl Florida, managing director of Small Law Firms and Consumer for Thomson Reuters. “We are committed to continually innovate and improve Firm Central to meet customers’ needs. Our recent “State of the U.S. Small Law Firms” study found that achieving greater efficiency is one of the top challenges facing small firms, and Firm Central can be an essential tool to help attorneys more effectively manage the multitude of tasks they deal with, including matter management, time & billing, scheduling and assembling documents.”
