Elite 3E brings the convenience of Amazon Alexa to time and billing

New Workspace Assistant allows voice commands for time entry and billing inquiries

EAGAN, Minn. – Thomson Reuters has introduced Workspace Assistant, a new way for lawyers to access and perform time management functions via Workspace using Amazon® Echo® or other Alexa®-enabled devices. Workspace Assistant simplifies time and billing for customers using Workspace to engage with its leading financial management solution, Elite 3E. Workspace is Elite’s platform that enables clients to access a range of Elite solutions and third-party products from both desktop and mobile devices.

Through integration with the Elite Workspace desktop, lawyers and timekeepers can enter and track billable hours via voice-only inputs. More specifically, Workspace Assistant allows the inputting of billable hours to a specific client matter, the use of a timer to calculate and post time spent on a given client matter, and the ability to ask Alexa a variety of questions that relate to billable hours. According to Eric Ruud, managing director of Thomson Reuters Legal Enterprise Solutions, the business that includes Elite, “Workspace Assistant underscores Elite’s commitment to making its clients’ working lives easier and to always keeping them up to date with the latest technologies. The function is hosted by Elite, so it’s just a low touch into the Amazon environment. Alexa listens and interacts with time entry and reporting, but always within the firm’s security walls.”

Workspace Assistant can be downloaded from the Amazon Alexa store. There is no fee to use it, and set up and configuration are simple.

“We see secure, innovative products and processes as critical to helping customers efficiently manage the many challenges they face,” said Executive Sponsor for Innovation in the Legal business, Charlotte Rushton. “Experimenting with new user interfaces and how they can enhance the customer experience is a core tenant of our innovation strategy. We do this by leveraging the technical expertise across our enterprise, such as in our Thomson Reuters Labs, where we test concepts for the application of novel consumer technologies for the professional environments we serve. Workspace Assistant, released by Elite, is a great example of how Thomson Reuters innovates.”

Workspace Assistant is available to users of Workspace and Elite 3E in the US and UK and is an integral part of the business’s Lawyer Experience initiative, which emphasizes Elite tools to help lawyers and timekeepers do their jobs more efficiently and effectively. Learn more at elite.com.
