Thomson Reuters and CUPL co-publish first English-to-Chinese text on U.S. Constitutional Law

EAGAN, Minn. Thomson Reuters and China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) Press, a leading legal publisher in China, have published Constitutional Law: Lectures, Cases, and Resources by Chang Wang, chief researcher at Thomson Reuters. The two-volume, 1,200-page book is the first English-to-Chinese textbook of U.S. Constitutional Law.

Wang has lectured in comparative constitutional law, as well as legal research in American law, to Chinese, American and Swiss law students for the past several years. The textbook includes 25 lectures from Wang on Constitutional Law, West’s Key Number System on Constitutional Law and Headnotes of 39 U.S. Supreme Court cases, annotated case briefs and additional Constitutional Law research. Rick King, executive vice president and chief information officer of Thomson Reuters, served as the executive sponsor of the publication project.

The volume also includes the first-ever Chinese translation of the Constitution of the State of Minnesota, as well as Chinese translations of Magna Carta, the United States Constitution, and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the oldest constitution in the United States.

“The book is dedicated to all the civil rights lawyers in China who are committed to building the rule of law,” said Wang. “Constitutionalism in China is one of the most powerful stories of our lifetime.

“I believe the story of the law, from Magna Carta to the U.S. Constitution and its state-level counterparts, serves as an inspiring model for both budding jurists and global citizens alike.”

The book also features forwards from Peter Warwick, executive vice president and chief people officer of Thomson Reuters, and Vance Opperman, member of the Board of Directors at Thomson Reuters and former CEO of West Publishing.

Constitutional Law: Lectures, Cases, and Resources is yet another example of how our business seeks to provide trusted answers to Chinese legal professionals, as well as the needs of a growing nation and its ever more complex economic and social realities,” Thomas S. Kim, managing director of Thomson Reuters China, said.
