Thomson Reuters Practical Law Debuts New Practice Area: Health Care

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, November 11, 2020 – Thomson Reuters has announced the launch of Health Care, a new practice area within Practical Law, to deliver legal information related to multiple health care topics as well as other critical legal know-how content.

Practical Law Health Care provides deep expertise and knowledge in easy-to-understand resources to address federal and state statutes in areas ranging from fraud and abuse, payment and reimbursement, and patient privacy, as well as providing compliance guidance for changing health care laws, and advice to help mitigate risks and significant penalties for health care entities and staff.

“Practical Law Health Care is designed with input from our customers to meet their needs and has resources developed by our lawyer-editors to guide users through many health care-related topics,” said Thomson Reuters Practical Law Director Rachel Byrne. “Practical Law Health Care will serve as the expert down the hall for the latest insights and guidance, especially important in today’s work-from-home environment when there often is no ‘down the hall.’”

Covering U.S. laws and regulations, Practical Law Health Care will help legal professionals, whether in a firm or an organization, spend more time serving as a strategic partner for the business, not just a resource to produce legal documents. According to Byrne, “Federal laws are standard for all to follow, but when it comes to most states, there are added layers of complexity. Practical Law Health Care will be the solution that helps legal professionals answer the ‘how do I’ questions with speed, accuracy and confidence.”

The six topic areas within Practical Law Health Care include:

  • Clinical Trials & Research
  • Fraud, Abuse & Compliance
  • Payment & Reimbursement
  • Patient Privacy & Security
  • Health Care Entity Formation & Governance
  • General Health Care

In addition to its multi-state charts and COVID-19 Health Care toolkit, the Health Care practice area also provides Q&A topics to navigate state fraud and abuse laws, as well as non-physician practitioners and data breach notification laws.

Practical Law, through its know-how content, including practice notes, standard documents, checklists and other resources, provides comprehensive insights and answers to legal professionals’ “how do I” questions. Practical Law has more than 600 expert lawyer-editors globally across 16 practice areas who develop resources for more than 100 countries enabling users to quickly get up to speed on new areas of law as well as the most recent changes; understand how the law applies to particular matters; navigate new legal realities; and know what questions to ask and how to proceed.
