Thomson Reuters Introduces Major New Brexit and European Resources on Practical Law
Divergence Tracker Goes Live on Westlaw Edge UK
LONDON and NEW YORK, 14 October 2020 – Thomson Reuters is introducing major new Brexit, European Union and EU member state enhancements on Practical Law to help users stay ahead of new EU and country-specific legislation and developments as they unfold. Practical Law’s newest team of expert lawyer-editors, recruited across five European countries, collaborated with leading European lawyers and law firms to deliver maintained Practical Law content sets on new topics, including International Trade & Customs, and for new jurisdictions.
“The effects of Brexit continue to impact many areas of law. Understanding prevailing EU regulation will be critical for many businesses and clients as the UK exits the transition period,” said Lucinda Case, head of Legal Professionals Europe at Thomson Reuters. “Legal professionals need to be certain they are advising clients or their business appropriately on the far-reaching changes that are about to affect cross-border operations and impact many aspects of business, finance and the law across Europe.”
A new European Union country page on Practical Law includes all practice area content on EU law, so legal professionals can easily access EU legislative and institutional developments in one place. There also are enhanced country pages for EU member states France, the Netherlands, Ireland and Italy, providing maintained coverage of key corporate law topics, including Formation of Business Entities, Private M&A, Director and Shareholder Matters, Establishing a Presence, Law Making and Execution of Documents.
In addition to these foundational content sets, timely new topical coverage will also be available. This will include content on the range of measures introduced relating to the holding of board and shareholder meetings as a result of COVID-19 and a spotlight on key points of interest in a range of other areas, for example, insolvency law.
As well as providing these new content sets, Practical Law has committed to remain the trusted destination for EU law developments for its users, who will continue to be able to access relevant EU content alongside the new International Trade & Customs content to guide them through post-Brexit trade systems.
New Practical Law International Trade & Customs, EU and EU member state know-how content, including practice notes, standard documents, checklists and other resources, is immediately available within select subscription packages.
Westlaw Edge UK’s Divergence Tracker Goes Live
In July of this year, Thomson Reuters introduced Westlaw Edge UK, its next-generation legal research system for the UK market. Westlaw Edge UK delivers an innovative set of features that allow legal professionals to stay ahead of legal and regulatory change and navigate the UK’s withdrawal from the EU. A key feature of the new legal platform, Divergence Tracker, went live today, providing a side-by-side, marked-up comparison of EU and UK law to help users understand how the two bodies of law begin to diverge. Divergence Tracker also allows legal professionals to see how both UK and EU law changes over time, so users can compare laws and regulations as they stood at a point in time relevant to the matter at hand.
To enable the launch of Divergence Tracker, EU legislation on Westlaw UK was enhanced to provide the same look and feel as its industry-leading UK legislation. Features now include an arrangement document, or table of contents, for easy orientation and provision-level linking, which allows quick and easy access to the relevant language in the regulation.
“However legal professionals interact with EU, UK and member country law post-Brexit, Thomson Reuters will be there, whether it’s to provide critical know-how resources to support the work of legal professionals or sophisticated tools to help customers quickly and confidently navigate UK and EU law,” added Case.
