Thomson Reuters Announces Award Winners for Best in Tax and Accounting at Annual Conference

Washington, DC revealed as the location for the SYNERGY 2022 conference

DALLAS, January 27, 2022 Thomson Reuters announced the winners of their annual Luca Awards, honoring the best in tax and accounting for 2021. The awards were presented at Thomson Reuters 41st Annual SYNERGY user conference in Nashville, TN.

The award winners were selected from submissions received by an internal team of professionals at Thomson Reuters. The Luca Pacioli Accounting Awards are named in honor of Luca Pacioli – known as the “father of accounting.”

“Luca Pacioli set a precedent for the modern accounting system used today, introducing the concepts of ledgers, journals, and bookkeeping. Winners of the Luca Pacioli Accounting Awards embody Pacioli’s spirit of innovation and demonstrate a mastery of accounting and technology,” said Elizabeth Beastrom, President of Thomson Reuters Tax & Accounting Professionals segment. “Congratulations to all of this year’s winners. You exemplify the best of the best in the profession.”

Nominations were accepted for the following categories: Community Peer Support, Trail-Blazing Woman, and Firm of the Year. The winners are:

Angie Wood started her business, Wood CPA, in 2019 and grew the firm from scratch to almost 300 clients in just two years. Her customers love the responsiveness and personal attention they receive from her and out of the new clients she has gained in the past year, all but three came from referrals.

Firm of the Year – Harper & Company CPA Plus

Harper & Co., led by Glenn Harper, has been a force behind efficiency, technology, and revenue, which transformed their business to help clients at a higher level across the country. When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, the firm didn't miss a beat. They restructured the way they interacted with clients. The advisory services focused on client relationships, scoping out their client’s needs to providing proactive advice and a plan.

The awards were part of a successful SYNERGY conference for Thomson Reuters held in a hybrid format and welcomed more than 800 attendees in-person and nearly 1,500 virtually. Attendees were treated to insights on the profession from Thomson Reuters leaders, best practices from their peers, entertainment from country music legends, and a look at how to work with co-workers and clients from different generations by keynote speaker Jason Dorsey.
