Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company appoints Aidan Eyakuze to its Board of Directors
New York, January 8, 2025 – The Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company announced today the appointment of Aidan Eyakuze to its Board of Directors, effective December 31, 2024.
The Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company acts as a guardian of the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles. Established in 1941, the Trust Principles include the all-important preservation of independence, integrity and freedom from bias in the gathering and dissemination of information and news.
The appointment of Eyakuze to the Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company fills the vacancy created by the retirement of the current deputy chair and board member Ory Okolloh.
"I am delighted to welcome Aidan to the Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company,” said Kim Williams, Chairman of the Founders Share Company's Board. “For nearly 175 years, Reuters has been relied upon for objective, factual and trusted information. Eyakuze’s rich governance and leadership experience will prove valuable in ensuring that Reuters and Thomson Reuters uphold the Trust Principles, which they hold sacrosanct. All board members are grateful to Ory for her contribution over the past nine years and I personally thank her on behalf of the Founders Share Company board members not only for her service over that time but for having been a fine deputy chair over the last year of her term.”
Trained as an economist in Canada, Aidan Eyakuze is currently executive director of Twaweza East Africa. Twaweza works on enabling children to learn, citizens to exercise agency and governments to be more open and responsive in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. In March, Mr. Eyakuze will assume a new role as Chief Executive Officer of the Open Government Partnership (OGP). The OGP supports its 76 member countries and thousands of local governments and civil society partners to co-create and implement ambitious reforms that make governments more open, inclusive, and responsive to citizens. Prior to joining Twaweza, Mr. Eyakuze was an associate regional director of the Society for International Development (SID) and head of the SID Tanzania office.
Mr. Eyakuze also serves on the boards of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, the Open Contracting Partnership and Raising Voices. He is an Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellow and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
