Firewall guidelines for CS Professional Suite

We recommend you keep your firewall application up to date because CS Professional Suite applications contain sensitive information. Consult with a qualified IT professional to select, implement, and set up a firewall application for your firm.

Firewall setup considerations

Your IT professional may need to specify certain exceptions to your firewall's default configuration for CS Professional Suite applications to function properly.
For all applications:
Set exceptions for the following web addresses.
  • *.thomsonreuters.com/*
  • *.tr.com
  • auth.onvio.us
  • gstatic.com
  • connect.creativesolutions.com
  • secureconnect.creativesolutions.com
  • csdownloads.thomsonreuters.com
Open the following ports for inbound and outbound traffic.
  • Port 80
  • Port 443 (CS Connect uses SSL for data encryption)
  • Port 8080 (CS Connect uses this port as an HTTP alternative)
For Accounting CS, Practice CS, Workpapers CS, and optionally FileCabinet CS:
Create the following port exceptions.
  • TCP Port 1433
  • UDP Port 1434
Create the following program exceptions.
  • sqlservr.exe
  • sqlbrowser.exe
Create the following outbound program exceptions.
  • C:\Program Files\Creative Solutions\Accounting CS\AccountingCS.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Creative Solutions\Practice CS\[version]\CreativeSolutions.Practice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Creative Solutions\Workpapers CS\WorkpapersCS.exe
For Virtual Office CS or Software as a Service (SaaS) environments:
An internet connection and Citrix are both necessary to open applications in this environment.
Some internet service providers (ISPs) use a firewall that blocks certain ports by default. If you can't connect to applications in Virtual Office CS or SaaS, try using an alternate port.
  1. In the
    NetStaff CS
tab of the navigation panel, select
    Applications
    .
  2. In the
    Setup
    menu, mark the
    Use Alternate Port
    checkbox.
  3. Open TCP Port 1494 in your firewall.
Create the following program exceptions in the workstation firewall.
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\ICA Client\concentr.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\ICA Client\wfcrun32.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\ICA Client\wfica32.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\ICA Client\CtxTwnPA.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\SelfServicePlugin\SelfService.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\SelfServicePlugin\SelfServicePlugin.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\Receiver\Receiver.exe

Proxy servers and Virtual Office CS or SaaS

We can't guarantee that CS Professional Suite applications will work properly when accessed via a proxy server. If you do use a proxy server, make sure that the necessary ports are open (previously listed).

Proxy servers and local installation

You can use a proxy server to transmit data from CS Professional Suite applications to CS Connect. There are many different proxy servers and configurations, so we recommend you contact your IT professional for help. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try if you're not able to transmit information via CS Connect.
  • Run a test connection. Select
    CS Connect
    on the toolbar, select
    Communications Setup
    , and then
    Test Connection
    .
  • Check the proxy settings for CS Connect. Select
    CS Connect
    on the toolbar, select
    Communications Setup
    , and then
    Proxy Settings
. Make sure the address and port listed are exactly the same as those listed for your internet browser.
  • Respond to a “403 - Authentication is invalid” (or similar) error message. Select
    CS Connect
    on the toolbar, select
    Communications Setup
    , and then
    Proxy Settings
    . Clear the
    Proxy Authentication
checkbox. If you're certain that you use proxy authentication, check the network username and password, or try using another username and password.
  • Check the settings for necessary ports. Make sure that Port 80 (connect.creativesolutions.com) and Port 443 (secureconnect.creativesolutions.com) are open for both inbound and outbound traffic.
  • Check for interfering applications. Check to see whether any antivirus, antispyware, or popup blockers are installed on the workstation. These applications could prohibit a proxy connection, so you should turn them off temporarily when using CS Connect.
