Create and submit a test 1095-C internet file
Before your firm can transmit live 1095-C internet files, you need to upload a 1095-C test file to the IRS Affordable Care Act Information Returns (AIR) system.
Follow these steps to create and submit a 1095-C test file.
- SelectActions, thenProcess Internet/Magnetic Files.
- SelectTransmitter Information.
- Verify or select aFile Contactin the General section.The file contact needs to have a full name and phone number entered at in the following location:Setup,Firm Information, thenStaff.
- Enter your firm's1095-C Transmitter Control Codein the Federal 1095-C section, then selectOK.Transmitter control codes assigned for 1095-C electronic filing are different than those assigned for 1099 electronic filing.
- SelectCreate 1095-C Test File.Accounting CS creates 2 XML files in the/12-31-yy/US/1095-C Test File/folder in the file location specified for electronic/internet/magnetic files. To verify the location, selectSetup,File Locations, then theFile Creationtab.
- SelectAIR UI Channel Login - AATS (Testing), thenLeave IRS Site.
- Sign in using your e-services account credentials.
- Select the manifest and data form test files, thenTransmit.Before you can transmit live 1095-C internet files to the state of California, you need to upload a 1095-C test file to the California MEC FX Portal system. You'll need a state-provided transmitter control code to create the state's test file.
After submitting your test files, you can sign in to the IRS Affordable Care Act Information Returns Program website to check for an acknowledgment. If you get a

or Accepted with Errors
acknowledgment, contact the IRS AIR help line at 866.937.4130 to turn on your transmitter control code (TCC). You can then transmit live 1095-C internet files: select AIR UI Channel Login - Production
on the IRS Affordable Care Act Information Returns Program website.
