Create a custom prompt
Custom prompts let you save reusable instructions for CoCounsel with optional variables that you can fill in each time.
Custom prompts eliminate the need to enter the same instructions repeatedly. You can create a prompt once with variables (blank fields) for different information, then reuse it across cases. For example, create a prompt for drafting letters to opposing counsel with variables for the recipient's name, subject matter, and relevant documents.
Creating a custom prompt involves writing instructions, optionally adding variables, selecting a CoCounsel skill, and organizing it with tags and practice areas. After creation, you can use the prompt in any chat, share it with colleagues or your organization, edit it, or duplicate it to create similar prompts. Your prompt appears in both the
Library
(for quick access) and Manage Library
(for editing).Follow these steps to create a custom prompt.
- SelectManage Library, then select the+ Addbutton.
- Enter basic prompt information.
- In theNamefield, enter a name for your prompt.
- In theDescriptionfield, enter a description that explains what your prompt does.
- Write your prompt text.
- In thePromptfield, enter the instruction that CoCounsel will follow.
noteTo make your prompt reusable for different situations, you can add variables that users will fill in each time they use the prompt. - Add variables to your prompt (optional).
- Select theInsert variabledropdown.
- Choose a variable type:
- Manual Entry: Users type their own text such as names, dates, amounts, and custom questions.
- Multiple Choice: Users select from options you create such as document types, party roles, and urgency levels.
- Files/Databases: Users upload documents such as contracts, correspondence, and discovery materials.
- Enter a placeholder title for the users of your prompt so they know what to enter. This has a maximum character limit of 80 characters.
- Select a CoCounsel skill.
- UnderSelect a CoCounsel skill, choose which skill will process your prompt.
noteCoCounsel will analyze your prompt to recommend the best skill. This may take a few seconds. - Add practice area and tags (optional).
- UnderLibrary organization, in thePractice areadropdown, select a practice area, for example Litigation, Transactional, or General.
- In theTagfield (optional), enter tags to help organize and find your prompt later.note
- Tags are shared across your organization. When you create a new tag, it becomes available to all users.
- You can add tags with a maximum of 32 characters.
- SelectAdd promptto save your prompt.CoCounsel saves your prompt and displays a success message: “Prompt successfully added to your library.” You can selectShare promptin the success message to share your new prompt with others.
Your custom prompt now appears in:
- Manage Library: Where you can edit, share, or delete it.
- Library: Where you and others (if shared) can use it in any chat.
To use your prompt, open any chat, select
Library
, find your prompt, and select it. The prompt will open in your chat with any variables ready to fill in.
